The mermaid

Charles Addams is a funny dude and reminded me how much i love dark humor. Here is my version of a mermaid. Trying to push my style more and going back to my fav: the felt tip pen.

2 min doodle at work

a quick doodle at work. Time for dinner!

naked shiny doodle

I felt like i should draw something...so of course its a naked chick. ..wow its late, bed time!

SATURDAY THOR

The rough is getting to a final state...I just need to figure out LIGHTNING!!! cause mine sucks. I'm thinking the lightning from that Mickey Mouse Runaway brain short would be good to look at. I still need to add his cape and work out some of the secondary action. Overall I'm really happy though...if i clean him up, comp it in after effects and really take it to a final state it will look sweet.

Thorf

Here is more Thor, he is getting there now. I still need to tweak a lot but thats pretty good work for a Friday Night....I can now sleep yay!

ThorfRough

My thor animation work in progress. I really like what I did at the end but don't know if it matches the beginning....still have a lot to do. Any cool suggestions for what Thor could do? Or what he zaps at the end with his Thunder Slam? Let me know what you think?

i was thinking he could zap Odin or a Goat...not sure what one

Animation in progress THOR!

This is my weekly animation in progress. I'm gonna try to work on some animation everynight and over time get my skills higher and get some polished looking stuff. This is my Thor design. I want to do some kinda cool action/anime type thing *inspired by Jeremy Polgar's awesome 5 second film.

RobotGun Cleaned up

I cleaned this old animation up last night for fun. I started cleaning it up for fun and just didn't stop....it was a lot of fun coloring it and adding effects though. Let me know what you think?

My 5 second day Film - The Magic Gnomes

Here is my 5 second day film. First Thanks to Chris and Shannon at Titmouse for having this day. It is such a wonderful idea and generous of them to put it on. I had so much fun making it! and was influenced by a lot of different incredible artists, check em out!!

Chris Hinton's film "Nibbles" was very influential
http://www.videosift.com/video/Nibbles-by-Chris-Hinton

Nacho Rodriguez's Mr. Coo series. This guy is super talented and after animating the giant i realized that he was a Mr. Coo lookalike
http://coldhardflash.com/flash-animation-10-best-animated-mr-coo/

Also the art of Ronald Searle, David Gemmill's awesome animation *especially that crazy walk he drew with the nose bouncing up and down and those Red Bull commercials.

Thanks again to Titmouse for putting this on!!! and check out all the awesome animated shorts people made soooo funny!

TITMOUSE!!! 5 second monday

Titmouse inc. *Where i work* has something called 5 second Day. You make a 5 second long film *or longer* Its tomorrow and I am super pumped!!! All i know is i'm gonna make a film about gnomes and trolls and its gonna focus on eating. The idea is very loose and i'm excited to see how it and all the other films turn out!!!

Animating again: CLICK TO PLAY

At work I'm doing some actual traditional animation. Its the first time I've done it professionally so it's a little nerve wracking but a lot of fun. Here is a guy I animated a few years ago to celebrate the occasion. He was a design for my scraped Senior Thesis....

Why would I ever Scrap this guy!!!!!!

Its weird to be animating again but a great learning experience. I left school just wanting to do boards..... but animation is so helpful for boarding!!!

An Honest Post

So the last two posts were old drawings. HERE is a new one I did for ol bloggy. Honest.
Can you guess what animal i was thinking of?

Great Quote

Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relative to other matter; second, telling other people to do it.

-Bertrand Russell

"the mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heav'n of hell, a hell of heav'n."

-John Milton

I have had these two quotes in my mind lately. One deals with the physical and the other mental. The Bertrand Russell quote really resonates with me right now, while I'm early on in my career. I do what people tell me. How do i get out of this? By having something they (the Employer) wants. As an artist that is difficult because apparently we are a dime a dozen. So experience and skill is the way out. In the meantime I have to take jobs which are hard to make a "heaven of hell" ....anyway thought I would share.

Here is a sword lady and a compostion I did for a class I took at the union

Feeling guilty for not posting so.....you get some old drawings!!!!

The first one was a comic I made when I got that game Spore....You have a real feeling of how massive the universe is but it all takes place in front of your computer...pretty ironic.

Conan...I love that crazy dude.

Seaweed fan art...made when I first got my cintiq and was checking it out. Seaweed is an amazing comic drawn by Ben Balistreri http://benbalistreri.blogspot.com/ who is super talented.

I quickly fixed that Weird 2 I like this one better

oh and

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

WEIRD

I did this last night when i couldn't sleep. I don't know what it means but i like it

Animation Dump!!!!

Some more animation. The head chop thing I did a few months ago for fun. The Cowboy shooting the fly I did tonight. The punch line is another cowboy comes from OS at the end and is full of holes. HAHA stupid cowboys. Still have to animate that...The last animation I don't remember when I made... but its a copy of a richard williams sneak walk

This is the Def Leppord Pour Sugar on me song. I just love the weird trippyness in the beginning.

A new approach - Speed Animation

I have been playing around with how to approach a scene. I did all this animation *about 15 seconds* in an hour and 1/2 hour as a challenge to myself. This is how I approached it.

1. make coffee - i wanted to be awake for straight ahead animation.

2. Use a design - i wanted a character i was familiar with.

3. Audio - Listen to the audio about 15 times in a row, really thinking about it in my head and understanding what i wanted to do. This was the new part for me and I think it really helped.

4. Do it straight ahead on 1's in flash. Don't even listen to the audio cause you know whats going to happen. concentrate on the drawing.

5. Just draw the big shapes. Don't stop and go back to clean up drawings. If he goes off model keep going! screw it! you might find he changes for the better. Its so lose when you clean it up you can make it right.

6. after finishing the drawing go back and retime it and fix camera moves. I was drawing him way off the frame but didn't care cause its so easy to fix in flash.

Thoughts:
Well it was a fun experiment. Some parts of how i approached it arn't the best way to do animation. This scene could of worked well doing pose to pose for the walk cycle and cycle the animation... I like how the ending turned out though. When I do this again I would defiantly work on 2's instead of 1's. I thought might capture more energy on 1's but it really slowed me down and I had to delete a lot of drawings. I found that sitting down and REALLY concentrating on the music was helpful.

Let me know what you thought? I plan on cleaning him up and refining the animation.
any suggestions would be great.

Doodle Update

These are some drawings from my sketchbook and my Chinese Junk/Spanish Galleon ship design. I really like the face expressions for the top guy. Its fun to just draw cartoony, wacky expressions

GrannyPirate Props

I did this for my prop class at the union. I like how some of the props turned out...especially the trunk/walker for granny pirate. The flag could use some more work and i could push the shapes even more. Kinda bummed the teacher didn't even look at it. Also most of the students in there are creepy...so i usually spend my time drawing them, I'll have to post some of them one day.

some fun

Hey havn't posted in forever. Thought i would do an animesque animation for fun. Just click on mr. robot to see him draw a gun. I still need to tweak it...add some kinda crazy anime like camera move twirling around him in the beginning.
